Had this happen to my sister today. I hosted the world from my PC, she joined from the Switch. When she exited the game and came back later all her stuff was gone and she was back at the initial spawn point. This has happened in two different worlds I've created, and it seems animals she's tamed, like cats, don't recognize her anymore either.
