When I join a Realm or LAN server, my skin sometimes changes to another online player’s skin. My device is an iPhone 5SE, so outdated software may play a part in the issue, but it has also happens multiple times to another friend of mine, who has an android device. It has only happened with 2 people, but it happens every time I join a game with them. They see themselves with my skin and I have my normal skin, and I see myself with their skin and they have their normal skin.
