Original description:
Good Day Mojang!
While setting up everything for a multiplayer recording(LAN MP), some instances of unexpected skin switching happens on our characters.
2 devices has Android 6.0 as players, and 1 device has Android 7.1.1 with ColorOs 3.1 for Oppo phones, that also acts as spectator for the recording.
Before we can even start, skin switching does occur, and only being resetted to correct ones after manually switching to any skin before changing it back to the intended skin.
The bug appears to do that certain bug to the full extent that another player sees his skin as my skin, and his skin sometimes becomes my skin, or another one's skin. It appears to be that way on Pause Screen, Paperdoll model, and your player's POV, in First Person, own Third Person, and another player's POV.
To summarize:
Bug: Unexpected Skin Switches happens in Multiplayer LAN
Bug appears in:
LAN Multiplayer
- First Person POV of the actual player (Hand)
- Third Person POV of the actual player (Front and Back)
- Any POV of another player
Temporary Fixes:
Manual changes needs to be performed in Skin Selection Menu on the Pause Menu
Probable Temporary Fixes(Not tested):
Rejoining the world of the host

This is also happening to me and I also played LAN, my brother and I saw the other's skin as also being our own. Am playing on Windows 10 1.13.0.2

That keeps happening throughout the Minecraft Bedrock 1.13 betas.

Can confirm this was happening on a Win 10 realm as well.
If two other people logged in while I was already logged in, I would see the second one in the first one's skin, and so would the first one, but the second one would see themselves correctly. In some cases the second would see me in the first one's skin.
We also were having issues where the skin showing on our pause menu wasn't the same one in game, generally when we were still seeing our correct skin in game (player hand and F5/third person view) but the others were seeing us incorrectly.
Attached screenshot: myself in 3rd person camera, showing the correct skin, but the pause menu showing myself as having the most recent player to log in's skin.

I have the exact same problem it's really bad on multiplayer serves because 50% of the people look exactly the same as me I hope this gets fixed soon x

Thank you for fixing this bug. I'm going to use 1.13.1 so I can film for my upcoming web-series. I'm sure it will be fixed in 1.14.0. I'm now restored and continue to report the bugs. Have a nice day! 😃
Update: Sorry still not a good day. The bug was still on but this time the skin was replaced. There was a new update on the Store.
I clicked on Profile > Edit Character > Owned > Import
It shows that the skin file that I use was replaced with another person's skin.
Replace "Fixed" to "Open". The bug is not really fixed.

@unknown: If you saw this foreign skin in the body type selection screen during the import, I suspect it was caused by a different bug, MCPE-54848. The foreign skin is just a remnant from an earlier session and will go away if you send the app to the background, then restore it. The other bug hasn't been fixed yet, so you'll still see previous skin images in the body type selection, but they shouldn't be images of somebody else's skin any more.
This problem can also continue to happen in a multiplayer session if the hosting device is still using 1.13.0. (Cross play is supported between 1.13.0 and 1.13.1.) Please make sure the hosting device has been updated to 1.13.1.
If you continue to see other players wearing the wrong skins in a multiplayer session after the hosting device has been updated, that would be a reason to reopen this ticket.

ya somehow the skins still have the bug. Like seriously

Auldrick: I named my skin a different filename. I tried didn't work. It still occurs in 1.13.1. I knew that was false. My phone is on the latest version and my friend used the latest too and my PC as well.

Reopening ticket due to continued reports of this happening in 1.13.1. Please comment if this is still happening to you, even if you commented before the 1.13.1 fix.

Can you include the fix to Minecraft 1.14.0 (Beta Bedrock)?

Auldrick and Reporter: Can you include 1.14.0.51 as the affected versions? I having an argument to my friend. Never fixed over 5 months. How embarassing...

On 13 November I commented that a fix had been applied but that leftover symptoms could persist for a few days until everybody got updated to 1.13.1. I asked everyone at that time to comment if they continued to see the problem after letting a few days pass for everybody to get updated. Nobody commented, so as of now I have no reports of the bug still affecting anybody.
Again, if you continue to have this problem, please comment about it. Include your device information and describe the multiplayer session it's occurring in: whether it's on Realms, a Bedrock Dedicated Server instance, or hosted by one of the players' devices (and include that device's information if possible). Also, please say whether you're seeing mixed up skins in the world, or only in the skin model chooser. I don't think anybody is currently working on this issue because we have no information about it since the fix was applied.

My sister and I are still experiencing this issue. We tried playing together yesterday when we noticed it. We both have 1.13.1, she is using a kindle fire and I am using a desktop with windows 10. Please fix this issue, as I don't really feel like playing with this bug.

Me and my friends always experience this issue, now it’s getting annoying. We played today and it’s still happening. We all have the same version and one of my friends plays on computer while me and my other friend plays on mobile, please fix this bug it’s getting really annoying and confusing.

Me and my mama have been affected by this glitch while playing LAN multiplayer on same wifi router. We are both playing windows 10 edition, version 1.13.1. On my screen, we are both her skin. On her screen, we are both my skin. In the pause menu the skins are what they are supposed to be, though.

For everybody still having this problem:
It's possible that these are still leftover effects from the 1.13.0 bug. If you're using an imported skin file, try importing the same file again, and when you get to the character model chooser, minimize the game window and immediately restore it before choosing your model. If that fixes the problem, it should be fixed for good. Please let us know either way.

So, work up on the above comment and following the steps exactly, it still isn't fixed.
As soon as someone else joins, my Character (on my screen) changes into that one.
Device Info:
OnePlus 5 (A5000)
Android 8.1.0
Minecraft v1.13.1
*Also, the server is a Friend's.

Wow! Amazing - I searched for 20 minutes and didn't find any of these duplicates. All 3 of the users mentioned in duplicate issue MCPE-57958 are all on 1.13.1 and the same Win 10 x64 platform.

It is do annoying, I want to set up an event on my realm where I need my second account to also wear a custom skin but it always ends up with my skin

It seems to be related to spawn, as when you bump into the character it sometimes fetches the right skin for them

The skin glitch also happens when entering nether/end, Minecraft bedrock 1.14

This is happening to me to. Every time I play with friends my skin keeps copying to them and i can never be my own skin!

Still not fixed, the other players should be made to update their game if It does have to do with version mismatches

I had found new info on the bug! So it seems when I pull up the pause menu when I have my skin on I transfer my skin to the server host, however I was not sure If they saw it or If This changes one person because I was in a server with only me and the server owner.

However I can confirm it probably has to do with pulling up the menu

My friends and I are having the same problem, when we load into one another's worlds we get put into our friend's skins and vice versa.

My sisters and I have had this problem ever since I got Minecraft two weeks ago. I am playing Windows 10, they are playing on their Apple tablets (ios). We all play on the same and latest version, 1.14. Highly annoying!

When saving and rejoining the issue continues. This only happens when joining over LAN for my case. When there is more than 1 user (2+ users) users all the skins move and switch, and sometimes someone will become a Steve or Alex skin instead of our custom skins. This has been happening before the buzzy bees update, and has not been fixed. This bug has been happening for about 2 months. I usually play on windows 10 on the newest version and my sister on the newest version of iOS and Minecraft, although it doesn't seem make a difference (it still happens) on all bedrock versions including game consoles and, PC. The only time this DOES NOT HAPPEN when 2 windows 10 versions are connecting over LAN, that is the only time I have found it doesn't happen (as per my research which may be incorrect and unreliable). It seems to happen when connecting to iOS Minecraft from another platform or iOS connecting to another platform. We are finding it is not resolved.

Having this issue with imported skins on Windows 10 Realms. I'm the host of the realm (win 10) and I've had about 6 players here, some on Switch, some on Win 10, and all up to date. It only seems to happen with me and one other player (who's also on win 10). We see each other as our proper skins, but everyone else seems to see us swapping at seemingly random points. Relogging fixes it temporarily until we open the crafting menu, then it starts up again. Reimporting also does nothing. Really annoying.
update: the person who my skin was swapping to changed their skin again and it seems it stopped for now? ???? ? ? ?

Me and my friends have the same issue as well. Everybody playing on Windows 10. We haven't seen any dependents yet but once we notice something, I'll edit my comment.

I had been told if you make your skins into a skin pack this glitch doesn't occur, and it doesn't! this is only a temporary solution to keep this glitch at bay, however it's super inconvenient to make skin packs for every time you make one new skin

Got this one too. Whenever we try to turn our skins back it switches again. It’s driving my friends and I (who all use custom skins) crazy.

I have this problem when using a slim skin, however, when I switched to a classic skin the problem stopped.

I play MCPE 1.14.1 and i have this issue when i go on realm, it seem fine at the beginning but as soon as i come close to my friend my skin switch to him. My friend also see me having his skin. I tried reinstalled the game but its no use. I switch to the slim body type then it switch my skin to another friend of mine. Until now I couldn’t do anything about it

This has been going on for a while and is getting really annoying. It all started because of the stupid skin update they had. It just ruins a lot of the fun in multiplayer.

My husband and I still experience this skin switch problem. It happens on both Realms and LAN. We are both on iPads, software 13.3.1 and MCPE version 1.14.20. I really hope this gets fixed soon. This has been a problem ever since the skin editor update. It is extremely frustrating.
Is this still happening in the latest beta version (1.14.30.51)?

This glitch is still happening and I can't even wear my own skin without it copying off someone else. It is really annoying and I hope it gets fixed.

ive also have had this happen to me numerous times while playing on a server and it really just kills the mood for me.

I can confirm that this glitch is affecting my entire Roleplay Server full of over 40 concurrent players. This glitch is ruining the experience for everyone and has gone on for far too long! Please patch this soon, happening as of 2/12/2020 on version 1.14.30

This glitch has completely ruined my experience on my friend's and I Minecraft realm. We heavily depend on custom skins for our faction-based gameplay and the second you get near another player your skin becomes theirs and vice versa. At one point all ten players on the realm were exact clones of each other.
This bug has stagnated our desire to play the game and we would really like this to be a priority in the list of bugs needing to be fixed. Our platform is PC.

This glitch has been happening to me for multiple months now. No matter how many times I switch my skin it always goes back to the default Alex skin. I'm on the current version of minecraft bedrock edition and really hope this gets fixed soon.

This glitch is taking away from the experience of the server I play on, it relies heavily on people wearing custom skins. See other players as myself or someone else is really confusing and annoying. It's been happening for weeks hopeful will be fixed soon

Please use the comments to provide new information. This issue was passed to the developers last summer. There is nothing more we can do on the bug tracker to expedite it. This (obviously coordinated) effort to draw attention to it by adding pointless, repetitious comments is not helpful, and it's causing hundreds of spam emails to be sent to those watching the ticket.

Here to provide some info from a duplicated report.
Using a Sony Xperia XZ F8331. 1.14.30 release
When playing in a local map or in a friend's local map online or LAN, after joining successfully, the skin changes to the player's skin an viceversa (for example, if I'm the moderator of the map and another player joins to me, on my device my skin change for the skin of that player, but that player still have his skin, and on the player's device his skin turns to my skin, but the player can see that I have my skin).
We tried changing the skin, but both of our skins change at the same time when one of us try to change it.
This only happens with exported skins. This does not happen when one of the players have an exported skin and the other one a Minecraft Persona skin (or both from Minecraft Persona). I tried this with only two players on a world (me and a friend).
This is happening since Minecraft Persona was implemented.

Thats correct and its still goung on. Im beta testing 1.15 and its still there.

Yesterday something happened.
I had a Minecraft Persona's custom skin when I was playing on my world. When a player joined to my world I tried to chage my skin to an exported one. When I entered to the skin selector the game showed a message; it said something like 'the skin couldn't be loaded' (my Minecraft Persona's skin in that case). I did not care much about that. Then I selected my exported skin, but the other player's skin did not change at the same time, and didn't change in the hole time.
I'm thinking that, in some way, Minecraft Persona is making a trouble with exported skins, but I cannot figure out why it is making it.

Okay, so via some completely unscientific testing I've got my two cents to add to this issue.
So, out of my friends, I'm one of the only ones who uses a skin that's 64x64, two of them use ones that are 64x32. It seems that whenever I approached them using a custom skin with a size of 64x64 that I would either swich to one of theirs or they would switch to mine. This also happens to another friend who uses a 64x64 skin, but i'm not sure of the exact pattern with his as he's not been on to test it. One thing to note is that when I downsized my skin down to 64x32 and approached the friends who were using the 64x32 skins it didn't switch in any way unlike when I used a 64x64 skin, where I'd always switch when I got in the vicinity of them. This makes me think that perhaps the skin switching and the usage of 64x64 skins are related in some way.
I don't know if this is the case for other people though.
19/2 edit: It also happened using a 64x32 skin now, although this is the first time it's happened

Also happen in Bedrock Dedicated Server 1.14.30 and its so annoying
Edit: I know it's not really clear because we use armor and i use shield, but you got my point

I got some finding on it. (@V1.14.30)
My son, my wife and I are playing Win10 version, we face the problem of characters switch during local LAN multiplayer, you are mine, I am yours, it happened over two months. All three of us using custom skins.
But after troubleshoot, we found that all our custom skins are using the thin body. Today, I tried to change my son custom skin to thick one, keep my wife with thin, and I purchased the new skin. Then the problem solved, all we can use our own skin and when we look at each other we can get the right characters. The preview when press E also correct.
After that I changed back my skin the custom with thick body, we still can look other correct, but when my son (thick body) and I (think body) press E to check, our characters exchange. But my wife does not affect.
The mash up of characters look like due to the body type, if you have only two in the local LAN, I recommend you use difference body type to custom your skin, more then two, sorry, please purchase the skin pack or wait for new buy fix.

Besides, create your own skin pack also is a good solution for us as mention by other player. I tried today and not difficult.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrsw9GyP4Ro
We may follow the above, make your own skin pack, everyone select their owner skin pack when play in multiplayer mode. The skin mash up of characters gone.
Mine are player WIN10 1.14.30

this happened to me in a realm

Continuing to have this issue, specifically in Realms. All players default to one player, and each player sees the other players wearing skins that are not theirs.
I can update with screenshots later.

Still having this issue as well. My friends and I are trying to play on different worlds of ours' and we keep getting our skins changed to the other person's skin whenever they join. It also has a range effect sometimes where it will only change to the other person's skin when you're in a 50-block radius. Realms also has the same issue.

Can confirm is occurring on Windows 10, Nintendo Switch, Android, and on all other platforms as well running the latest retail version of 1.14.3. The bug has been around since they introduced the skin editor and has not improved since. Hopefully this bug will be patched soon due to how annoying, and frequently this problem occurs.

It happens in LAN servers and some normal servers but mostly in LAN

It's still going on currently in the version 1.14.3.

This happens on the Amazon Fire Tablet, generation 8 HD, at the latest version of Bedrock edition for mobile.

I found this bug out while playing with my old friend. We both had the same tablet, the Amazon Fire 7, we both had the latest release (1.14.30), we were playing in my friend's world, we were both using custom skins, and on my end, we were both using my skin. On my friend's end, we were both using his skin. It must be how Minecraft loads skins after the Bedrock 1.13.0 update, because in the coding for Minecraft's new way to load skins, it probably thinks both custom skins are the same and reloads the client's custom skin to match the other's custom skin. But if I pause the game, my custom skin looks like the skin I chose. One way to manually fix this problem is to change to another one of your presets, then change back to your custom skin. (Except this doesn't always work.)

Still happening in 1.15.2, all of us use that version for java, first time it worked fine but the second time we hopped on we all had the same player's skin unfortunately

Affects 1.16.0.53 on Windows 10 and Android devices.

This has just happen to me on that latest version of minecraft. I found that it happen after my friend went in the nether and it has been happening since. My friend had joined through Xbox live. We are both on windows 10.
[media]

I can confirm this happens on Windows 10 edition, when playing with another person on Realms whose playing on pocket edition on an iPhone.

I'm testing out two separate Xbox accounts specifically to find a way around this bug, and I haven't found one yet. One account is on MCPE, and the other is on Windows 10. Whenever I try to change the skins though, it just gives me the same skin as the other account. The only way around this is the purchasable skins, but those are expensive, considering I still have other expenses to pay, and I don't know how comfortable I am with buying them. Currently, I'm just using the demo ones from the FFXV pack.
[media][media]
This is happening for me and my friend. Every time we both change to a custom skin, we end up getting switched to each other's skins. I have tried deleting and re importing as well. I change mine, they got mine too. They change theirs. I get theirs too.
Win 10 1.14.3 Hotfix

Me and my friend and both using custom skins and when she changes skins it also Changes mine. We both are in v1.14.30. But my friend is on Tablet while I’m on iOS would that have anything to do with it?

Whenever my friend joins my world, our skins switch. On my screen I have her skin and she has her skin, however, on her screen she has my skin and I have my skin. If we move far enough away from each other, we are able to successfully switch our skins to our own but once we get close again we switch back to the other's skin. In our last attempt to fix this, I switched to my skin after she tried to switch to hers and for me it just switched both me and her to my skin as well as on her screen. This just started happening today and be are both updated to the most recent version. We both have custom skins and were hoping to record a Minecraft role play together but as we were setting up this world with some mods (which were not the issue. we checked) this started happening. She is on an android phone while I am on PC. We have played together before and this never happened. Please fix this.
We are also using version 1.14.30

i play multiplayer with my friends on mobile while using windows10 edition and this issue still persist. please fix.

this is a consistent bug on our multiplayer servers. this happens with people in my friends list as well as LAN games. this happens across multiple platforms. i used to play MCPE on ios and had the same issue as i do now on windows 10 v1.14.3.
even in groups all playing on the same version of windows 10 will switch skins. i noticed that sometimes even if the world hasn't loaded yet, the LAN server host will already have their skin swapped with the first person loading in. it seems to be individual to each player as they see themself and everyone's skins differently. on one persons screen, players lining up would all have different skins compared another players screen.
i used to temporarily repair this bug on mcpe while in a multiplayer world by, changing skin to alex, exiting menu, re entering menu, selecting custom skin and re-downloading it. that seemed to stop working after the hotfix. currently the only fix is to use a default skin or one from a skinpack. this bug takes away from playing immersively when you are taken aback by someone else wearing your skin, or that you, yourself, are somebody else. especially if you and your friends have different themes going on in servers and rely on individual skins, it can be frustrating for everyone.
bless you all working on this behind the scenes, i know there are more important things y'all gotta focus on sorting out with a giant update such as the nether. but i'm hoping and praying this bug will be fixed when that comes out.

This seems to happen whenever I go onto one of my friend's worlds. Although, my friend who uses Xbox never has this issue. And I also discovered that when you put a cape on a custom skin, everything completely goes back to normal. Like for example, I got the Founder Cape when it was still available, and I just recently added it to my custom skin. Then I joined a friend's world and nobody's skins got switched. I removed the cape while in the world and then everyone's skins started switching around. I am using iOS 13 on an iPhone 11 with the 1.14.3 hotfix update. I also use a Kindle Fire HD 10 (2017) and the same thing happens when I use a cape.

Been happening for a few versions now. On LAN, my son's World he created, on my computer we both have his skin and on his computer we both have my skin.
Both Windows 10 1909, Minecraft Windows 10 Edition 1.14.30

Me and my friends also have this problem in 1.14.6. When we are playing we all have the skin of someone else. We are mostly with three people in the game. It seems random which skin we get. Sometimes I have the skin of the creator of the world but sometimes of the other player. I don't really mind the mixed skins but I understand it might be annoying for some players.

I think you can fix this temporarily by making a skinpack and placing your skin there. Activate it like that. Each person getting effected may have to do that as well.

before 1.14.60 it was only an issue on friends worlds and realms. After the update, with almost every server I joined, this would happen to me
Android 7.0 Samsung S8+

Hi, we are new to Minecraft so please forgive my rubbish description. My children have been playing on their ipads for a while and i finally succumbed to joining in the minecraft craze (ok I am glad I did it!
[media]!! if they play away from each other in the game they are fine - as soon as they come close the switch / duplication happens (I don't think they often swap, they both become the same, either hers or his skin). Once swapped they stay swapped, although we are getting around it by pursuading my 7 yr old (who likes to wind his sister up) to stay away from her - or for her to close out of the game and rejoin. But it is an absolute nightmare - if she wasn't Autistic we could live with it, but it is stressing her out so any help would be great. I did see about an update?? is it possible 1 ipad is updated and the other not?? Thanks, a troubled mum.

Having the same issue, I keep switching to a friends skin for some reason, so there is two of her skin running around and confusing both us and everyone else playing with us.
I use the Import Skin option.
I switch back to mine but it eventually switches back to theirs again.
This never seemed to happen until my friend bought Realms and now we have this issue.
Thank you for reading and I hope there is a fix soon! 🙂
Windows 10 Edition, v1.1460

Hi Caroline, I have been dealing with this bug for over a year now and Mojang seems to just not care. I have found a solution though that might help your situation. If you make a skin pack and import it, then the bug seems to stop. This isn’t the easiest task ever, but since you’re only really using 3 or 4 skins, I could make the pack for you and send it over. That way your kids will have fun! 😁
If you are interested, just send me an Xbox message at the gamer tag “Arenngor” and I can give you my email from there instead of posting it here!

The bug still appears in Minecraft 1.14.60 in both Win10 and PE. I have a video to show how it's happening. The description above actually summarizes it the exact way like it is happening in ours as well. It doesn't occur to a single pair of players but even more. I manage to fill up our world this week up to 8 players and the bug occurs on 2 pairs of players who both uses a customized skin. This results to a quarrel though.
[media]
Actually it happened to me with just my friend and i. We both have custom skins.

This is happening with me and my siblings and we updated our minecrafts but it still didn't fix the problem. Also it doesn't always change when we immediately join the game sometimes it happens after we've been playing awhile or after we die. Furthermore it doesn't happen to us if someone from outside our household is playing with us. Also this doesn't happen on Xbox and changing in the pause menu doesn't usually fix it

This issue has annoyed me for so long! I really hope this gets fixed as it is a fairly big issue for people who love using their custom skins and playing with friends
I use a Windows 10 Gaming PC and a Samsung A5 2017 for playing Minecraft

I discovered this happen in 1.15.0.9 (the RTX beta), but I could not reproduce this in 1.14.60 or 1.16.0.59, however it does not appear to be instant, it appears to take a while for the issue to appear.

Myself, my boyfriend, and his daughter were playing on our multiplayer server and we all changed our skins to custom ones, after a bit of back and forth it started switching skins on us all, making it look like we were all wearing the same skins. No matter who changed their skin we looked like that person, and no matter what we tried it didn't fix. We were playing on Version 1.14.60.

This Is A Annoying Glitch Me And 5 Or More Players Need To Record Episodes For A Series And We Cant Wait For Making Them Fans Are Waiting But We Cant Make Them With This glitch

This bug is certainly still around in the 1.14 updates, and 1.16 betas

May 8th and I'm still having this issue. We are playing on an online server, two of us on the same network. I see myself as his skin and he sees mine as his. It's incredibly annoying, and we are going to see if one of us trying a VPN will fix the problem.
It happens instantly. My husband will log on and he is himself, but then I log on and suddenly he has my skin and we are both the same. But I see my skin as his.
Edit: We are both playing on PC.
Edit 2: Installing and running through a VPN did not correct the issue.
Edit 3: The server's host sees me as the other skin.

I discovered this happen in 1.15.0.9 (the RTX beta), but I could not reproduce this in 1.14.60 or 1.16.0.59, however it does not appear to be instant, it appears to take a while for the issue to appear.

It affects 1.14.60

12/05/20
This is happening with one other player on a windows 10 realm. When we log in we both have our own custom skins, but as soon as we get close to each other in the world, I can see myself in his skin and he can see himself in mine. Other players see us both in the same skin but it seems to vary as to which one they see.
This issue only started to happen when the other player downloaded Minecraft and logged into the realm for the first time. Neither the server host or any other players in the realm seem to be affected by this.
We have had other bugs in the realm that started in the last week or so, including chunks not loading correctly and player arms being stuck straight out.
Super frustrating!

I've been having this problem on my Realm Server where if a certain player joins, only one other player will take on my skin or vice versa. It's extremely annoying!

This happens to me and my friend's on our realms server in version 1.14.6 every single time without fail. When someone joins with a custom skin, they will have the someone else's custom skin. Changing yours back also changes theirs. This happens no matter which of our devices we play on and doesn't seem to affect people using skins from the store.

I'm an IOS user playing on Minecraft version 1.14.6
This has been happening for many updates. Every single multiplayer game with 3+ people. Sometimes on just 2 people, but not always. Hoping this gets fixed in the Nether Update or the next bug update.

Sometimes skins, can switch depending on the app.

1.14.60 Bug still affects me and the friends I play with.

I'm on version 1.14.60 on Windows 10
Even if my friends and I switch back to our own skins, our skins can still get switched at any point if we enter the same chunk.

Android playing on 1.14.6 still having this issue

Happens on win-10 too

Posting due to deveoper request, this is happening to myself (theZitznarf) and my friend vandieman4463, who are both using Windows 10

This bug only affects u if u r playing in a friend world not realms or servers and when u both using custom skins with slim hands or using a normal custom skin but it can be fixed by using a skinpack

@bob detlinx It affects players on my realm tho

Bug still happens on Windows 10, version 1.14.60.

Currently using version 1.14.60. The bug is still occurring, although if you switch to the Steve/Alex skin, then switch back, it will make it so you have your skin, but also it will make it look like the other person has your skin as well. The bug occurs on LAN Multiplayer, Realms, Online Multiplayer, and all views of the skin. However, there seems to be no effect on skins when in external servers.

This bug still occurs on 1.14.60 on Android

Can you reopen MCPE-58872 and unlink it from this? That issue has absolutely nothing to do with a skin glitch and should not be linked to this one.

Still active in 1.14.6 changes players skins when 2 people are using custom image files that are not inside a skin pack. Either player attempting to revert the change has their skin applied to the other player, regardless of distance in world. Seems that world is only allowing a single "custom" skin at a time. Switching to any store skin pack, skin made with in game editor, or custom skin inside its own .mcpack file/folder resolves skin sharing bug. Note in previous versions this issue did not exist such as 1.11. Potentially related to/caused by in game store/editor integration.

I’m playing on IOS on version 1.14.60 and this happens every time me and my friends play together still. The pictures attached are from each of our POV’s.

Uh, hello? This issue still isn't fixed yet! 😞

@unknown: Please direct your comment to a Community Manager. The bug tracker only forwards bug reports to the developers. We have nothing to do with scheduling the fixes, nor do we have any information about what the status of a fix is.

Hello. Me and my friends are also having this problem.
We're all using Bedrock (Windows 10) on 1.14.60

The 1.16 made this issue worse. Now we can’t even see our skins at all we are all steves

@Auldrick Hello. My friend and I just got the 1.16.0 update, and we noticed that the multiplayer duplicate skin bug has still not been fixed. The inital report was made on July 6th, 2019. I'm commenting this on June 23, 2020. It's almost been a year since this bug has been fixed, and although it does not alter gameplay significantly, it's disappointing that, as far as I've seen, Mojang hasn't even noticed nor mentioned this bug. At the very least, could you confirm if they plan on fixing or are already in the process of fixing this bug?
Also, if there is someone else I should be messaging this to, please let me know.

I asked Helen Angel in Community Management about it. Mojang thought they had already fixed this, and it was supposed to be included in the 1.16 release. She was surprised that it isn't fixed and they'll get right on investigating what went wrong starting tomorrow. Assuming they can figure it out quickly enough, they'll shoot for having a patch in the first hotfix. Naturally, we can't predict exactly when that will be, but I would imagine two or three weeks at most. So thanks for asking!
You last couple of commenters, it might be helpful to the developers to have brief comments about what platform your server is running on and what skins you see (all default, all custom, or a mix). If the fix succeeded for anybody watching this bug, it would also be good to know which platforms it succeeds on—but let's try to avoid repeating the same platform multiple times, please.

I play on MCPE and I get this bug everyday. The 1.16 update made this problem worse. Now I can only be Steve, Alex, and a character from the character creator.

This bug is still occurring to me on the new 1.16 version. Playing on a realm on Windows 10.

Hey Bianca, try disabling the trusted skins under Setting->Profile to check if you can see your custom skin or another player's custom skin after this. We are also working on a fix for this issue, we know the reason behind it and we are running the fix though validation.

I have already tried this but the bug still occurs. When I got 1.16 it made all my custom skins invisible and corrupted.

Still hapening in xbox one 1.16

This should not, be Resolved. It’s still happening.

Will this be fixed in 1.16.20? There seemed to be nothing about it in the changelog.

@unknown: If you work at Microsoft Studios, you need to have the special flair added to your account here. If you don't, don't phrase your comments to sound like you do. Impersonating a developer can get you banned.
Update: I got confirmation that you're a deve;loper. Please contact Adrian or Mega_Spud to have your flair added.

@unknown: Release numbers don't necessarily follow Beta release numbers, but I assume you're asking if it will be in the next release.
The bug tracker staff are just volunteers from the community who collect and confirm bug reports and forward them to the developers. We don't have access to Mojang's schedules or the developers themselves, so we can't answer your question. Questions like this should be directed to Community Management, who will ask the developers if they don't already know the answer.

@Auldrick How do I direct Community Management? (Sorry for asking so many questions)

unsoqhis: @HelenAngel on Twitter is the easiest way.

I have this on my bedrock Realms sever between players - strangely it is only affecting those on the same Internet at present - another player (also on PC) is unaffected but sees players as in the same skin, even though they are in differnt skins. ill try to attach a video from Xbox game bar (please note all players are curently on the same version and on PC)
EDIT - VIDEO IS TOO LARGE FOR TAGGED IMAGES - YOUTUBE LINK : https://youtu.be/3n2ha_p-gDo
Fixed in 1.16.1 per the changelog. If the issue still persists please feel free to correct me.

This is fix now!!!!!

What am I missing. Running bedrock server 1.16.1, each Android phone is 1.16.1. But I'm always the "Steve" skin on the other phone, it's like someone who joins is always Steve. I see my skin properly, but they don't.

Everyone using XBL accounts
Using skins from planeminecraft
When I change my skin on the other Android phone it says I changed my skin, but I just show up as Steve.
If I change to a default skin, like black shirt Steve, that changes fine.
Tried on bedrock server 1.16.1, and joining a friend's world hosted on the Android phone, exactly the same.
I can't remember the last version we had functioning multiplayer custom skins tbh
Neither phone/account has ever bought a skin pack
I see myself as my custom skin, they don't
@unknown That issue is being tracked in MCPE-78206.

Hi. Both my son and I are using iOS 1.16.0 and have both signed in yesterday via xbox.com and chosen our new skins. These skins were not represented to each other, instead regular Steve was displayed. What is the glitch? Please help!

@unknown: Thank you for your report! Your issue is already being tracked at MCPE-78206.

I'm gonna post this here too since people will keep mentioning it, it's not a bug, it's just I kind of annoying security feature that I guess didn't exist before?
The Steve fix is:
Settings > Profile > Trusted Skins (SWITCH TO OFF)
Perhaps Mojang needs to address this somehow or there's gonna be endless tickets/issues.
THIS bug though seems to be fixed 👍 thanks team

*if you're still having a problem with skins in multiplayer, PLEASE READ:*
This issue is considered fixed, but there have been recent comments that need to be addressed.
If you no longer see your own player wearing another player's custom skin, but instead see other players wearing a default (Steve or Alex) skin or a Character Creator character instead of their custom skin, that has been determined to be Working As Intended. It is caused by a new Settings toggle on the Profile tab, named "Only Allow Trusted Skins". --Turning off this toggle will enable other people's custom skins to be visible on your computer.-- Correction: There is currently a bug that may be preventing this toggle from working. The issue is being tracked as MCPE-78206.
There were some comments that said this issue wasn't fixed, but didn't mention any ongoing symptoms. We therefore don't have enough information to decide whether they're still having the same issue or the one caused by the new setting. If you still see your player wearing another player's custom skin, or you play on a server with other people who have this issue, please comment below and, if possible, provide a screenshot.
There was only one comment that both said it wasn't fixed and provided video evidence that confirms that it was this same issue. However, the world in question was on Realms and the video was recorded 5 days after the 1.16.0 release. It's normal for there to be some delay before a new release appears on Realms, so that's a possible explanation (although a delay of 5 days seems larger than usual to me).
Since there were hundreds of people experiencing this issue but almost no recent comments saying that it's still happening, and since the few comments we have can be explained as a different issue, I am leaving this ticket resolved as Fixed, but if we get any comments that convincingly demonstrate that this same issue is continuing to happen, we will reopen it.
@unknown: Yours is the comment with video I referred to above. I expect that the issue has resolved for you now, but if it hasn't please comment ASAP.

If you are in a world and suddenly you start to experience this mid-game, check if the "Only Allow Trusted Skins" toggle has switched itself, if it has, then please comment on MCPE-100566

Hello!
I've read all of the comments and none of these resolve the issue.
The comments saying that it's an issue with the trusted skins setting don't help. The issue, at least on my Android 14 phone, is that when I wear a custom skin that I imported from my gallery, I see others wearing my skin. When I use a default skin or one created on Minecraft itself, and other players in the world are using custom skins, I see myself wearing their custom skin. If every player is wearing a default or Minecraft edited skin, then the skins show up correctly. That is the only time. This constantly happens every time I play over LAN (Wi-Fi).
Before I add this comment, here are a few more details:
I am sure that I am using different Microsoft accounts.
When I play with three people, including myself, over Wi-Fi, I see each player wearing my custom skin that I am wearing, unless the other players are wearing default skins or ones created in Minecraft's editor.
In addition, only two of the three devices in the game have a Microsoft account connected. They are different accounts.
I hope this helps and gets resolved soon!
