Multiplayer - Unexpected Skin Switch to other players(POV and Skin Viewer in Pause Menu)

Note

Please see this comment by @unknown. Any further comments that do not add any information will be removed.

Original description:

Good Day Mojang!

While setting up everything for a multiplayer recording(LAN MP), some instances of unexpected skin switching happens on our characters.

2 devices has Android 6.0 as players, and 1 device has Android 7.1.1 with ColorOs 3.1 for Oppo phones, that also acts as spectator for the recording.

Before we can even start, skin switching does occur, and only being resetted to correct ones after manually switching to any skin before changing it back to the intended skin.

The bug appears to do that certain bug to the full extent that another player sees his skin as my skin, and his skin sometimes becomes my skin, or another one's skin. It appears to be that way on Pause Screen, Paperdoll model, and your player's POV, in First Person, own Third Person, and another player's POV.

To summarize:

Bug: Unexpected Skin Switches happens in Multiplayer LAN

Bug appears in:

  • LAN Multiplayer

  • - First Person POV of the actual player (Hand)

  • - Third Person POV of the actual player (Front and Back)

  • - Any POV of another player

Temporary Fixes:

  • Manual changes needs to be performed in Skin Selection Menu on the Pause Menu

Probable Temporary Fixes(Not tested):

  • Rejoining the world of the host

This is also happening to me and I also played LAN, my brother and I saw the other's skin as also being our own. Am playing on Windows 10 1.13.0.2

That keeps happening throughout the Minecraft Bedrock 1.13 betas.

Can confirm this was happening on a Win 10 realm as well.

If two other people logged in while I was already logged in, I would see the second one in the first one's skin, and so would the first one, but the second one would see themselves correctly. In some cases the second would see me in the first one's skin.

We also were having issues where the skin showing on our pause menu wasn't the same one in game, generally when we were still seeing our correct skin in game (player hand and F5/third person view) but the others were seeing us incorrectly.

Attached screenshot: myself in 3rd person camera, showing the correct skin, but the pause menu showing myself as having the most recent player to log in's skin.

I have the exact same problem it's really bad on multiplayer serves because 50% of the people look exactly the same as me I hope this gets fixed soon x

Thank you for fixing this bug. I'm going to use 1.13.1 so I can film for my upcoming web-series. I'm sure it will be fixed in 1.14.0. I'm now restored and continue to report the bugs. Have a nice day! 😃

Update: Sorry still not a good day. The bug was still on but this time the skin was replaced. There was a new update on the Store.

I clicked on Profile > Edit Character > Owned > Import

It shows that the skin file that I use was replaced with another person's skin.

Replace "Fixed" to "Open". The bug is not really fixed.

I'm gonna post this here too since people will keep mentioning it, it's not a bug, it's just I kind of annoying security feature that I guess didn't exist before?

The Steve fix is:

Settings > Profile > Trusted Skins (SWITCH TO OFF)

Perhaps Mojang needs to address this somehow or there's gonna be endless tickets/issues.

THIS bug though seems to be fixed 👍 thanks team

*if you're still having a problem with skins in multiplayer, PLEASE READ:*

This issue is considered fixed, but there have been recent comments that need to be addressed.

If you no longer see your own player wearing another player's custom skin, but instead see other players wearing a default (Steve or Alex) skin or a Character Creator character instead of their custom skin, that has been determined to be Working As Intended. It is caused by a new Settings toggle on the Profile tab, named "Only Allow Trusted Skins". --Turning off this toggle will enable other people's custom skins to be visible on your computer.-- Correction: There is currently a bug that may be preventing this toggle from working. The issue is being tracked as MCPE-78206.

There were some comments that said this issue wasn't fixed, but didn't mention any ongoing symptoms. We therefore don't have enough information to decide whether they're still having the same issue or the one caused by the new setting. If you still see your player wearing another player's custom skin, or you play on a server with other people who have this issue, please comment below and, if possible, provide a screenshot.

There was only one comment that both said it wasn't fixed and provided video evidence that confirms that it was this same issue. However, the world in question was on Realms and the video was recorded 5 days after the 1.16.0 release. It's normal for there to be some delay before a new release appears on Realms, so that's a possible explanation (although a delay of 5 days seems larger than usual to me).

Since there were hundreds of people experiencing this issue but almost no recent comments saying that it's still happening, and since the few comments we have can be explained as a different issue, I am leaving this ticket resolved as Fixed, but if we get any comments that convincingly demonstrate that this same issue is continuing to happen, we will reopen it.

@unknown: Yours is the comment with video I referred to above. I expect that the issue has resolved for you now, but if it hasn't please comment ASAP.

If you are in a world and suddenly you start to experience this mid-game, check if the "Only Allow Trusted Skins" toggle has switched itself, if it has, then please comment on MCPE-100566

Hello!

I've read all of the comments and none of these resolve the issue.

The comments saying that it's an issue with the trusted skins setting don't help. The issue, at least on my Android 14 phone, is that when I wear a custom skin that I imported from my gallery, I see others wearing my skin. When I use a default skin or one created on Minecraft itself, and other players in the world are using custom skins, I see myself wearing their custom skin. If every player is wearing a default or Minecraft edited skin, then the skins show up correctly. That is the only time. This constantly happens every time I play over LAN (Wi-Fi).

Before I add this comment, here are a few more details:

  • I am sure that I am using different Microsoft accounts.

  • When I play with three people, including myself, over Wi-Fi, I see each player wearing my custom skin that I am wearing, unless the other players are wearing default skins or ones created in Minecraft's editor.

  • In addition, only two of the three devices in the game have a Microsoft account connected. They are different accounts.

I hope this helps and gets resolved soon!
