PS4 - Sharing or Transferring Texture/Skin packs to other user

I looked and haven't found any issues matching mine, yet – at least not since the recent assimilation of the PS4 version – so am posting here.  If it duplicates any others, I apologise.

My family plays Minecraft on the PS4, usually using either my wife's or my daughter's (who is under the age of 13, and thus has a restricted child account, for the record) accounts; I rarely play anything worlds saved in my own account.  However, because my account is the main one for the PSN, mine is the one under which most if not all of our texture and skin packs were purchased.  With the PS4 version of Minecraft that we were playing, all of the packs were shared across the console, so it didn't matter who actually purchased or who was "hosting" the game, they were all available to everyone in the family.

With the newest update for PS4, from 12/10/19, all of the packs purchased under my account are no longer available to the others, the ones who actually use them.   Which is a major issue, in my household.

In my initial research into the issue, I found that this had been an issue that arose in the Xbox accounts back when the "Better Together" stuff was first issued, 2 years ago.  It was my understanding, from what I read and how I intepreted it, that this was not so much a bug but a feature, and that from this point on, texture and skin packs would only be available under the account who bought them, and not to everyone in the family who used that console.

To that end, I submitted a Feedback via the game, requesting a method by which we could transfer ownership of the packs from one family member or the other.  We have bought many packs, both skin and texture, and have no intention of spending more money to buy access to the same packs, especially since the person who "owns" those packs is the one least likely to use any of them.

I received a response from someone named Scarlet:

Hey there, This sounds like a bug that has come up with the new launch. Please submit a bug report so it can be looked at here: https://bugs.mojang.com/ Hopefully we can get a fix out as soon as possible. Scarlet

I am not sure which part is the bug – the part where packs are no longer shared across a family console, or the part where we can't transfer the packs from own user to another.

Anyway, the point being, I would like some guidance into the issue, and how it can be best resolved.

  1. Is the fact that family members cannot share packs across a single console a bug or intentional?

  2. If it is intentional, is there some method by which "ownership" of packs can be transfered to other accounts, so that the people who actually use them instead of those who just bought them under the old content-sharing system?

  3. Also, if it is intentional, can your company consider changing that decision?  There are many families who play Minecraft, and it seems unfair to us to make us purchase multiple packs just so that the same family can use them without having to force the "controlling" player to be active in the game.  Especially given that many of the players are underage, and thus shouldn't be forced to "purchase" anything, especially if they aren't playing network multiplayer games.

Thank you for your time, and I hope for a quick response, as I'm sure that there are other PS4 users who are in similar situations and just haven't gotten around to posting yet.

My family is on xbox and this is a newer issue for us as well. We've been able to share skins up until about the update with the foxes (per my kids). This is equally a big deal for us and will be a deal breaker if this is the new Minecraft world we are living in. Like you, we specifically bought all of the minecraft content on the primary account as it was originally our only account and then my kids had their own accounts but they were very young. Now the kids can not access our many, many skin packs we purchased over the past 10 or so years.

I've spent a lot of money with Microsoft over the years. I get that everybody wants to profit like Fortnite but laying waste to your long time loyal customers to make a quick buck is not ethical. We will not be spending another dollar on Minecraft anything if this isn't resolved. As a technology advocate, people often ask me what they should buy. When people like me post on social media that we spent and now lost large amounts of money in Minecraft, it tends to be heard.

The issue you linked to is not the same at all. That issue is where a user's skin changes to the host of the world they join. This issue is that all of my family members are unable to use skins that were purchased by the parent and now have to purchase their own, rendering many dollars that were spent on the parent account that doesn't play much Minecraft as wasted. Now we have to re-buy the same skins for my kids to be able to use them; skins that they've been using for YEARS.

Very, very different issues.

[ [Minecraft] Mega_Spud (Jay Wells)|https://bugs.mojang.com/secure/ViewProfile.jspa?name=Mega_Spud] This is absolutely NOT a duplicate of that issue noted in your reply. As Ryan pointed out the other issue is a skin change-related issue and has nothing to do with DLC.

I just ran into this issue where my daughter is playing on her account and the "Editions" version has access to all of the texture packs I have downloaded through my PSN account. When she switches over to the "new" version that has the Microsoft account linking it doesn't have access to any of them. I'm not buying them all again for the other users on the account.

Reopening: Erroneously closed as a duplicate of MCPE-48207.

@unknown: Our apologies for mishandling your report. As earlier comments have said, this has nothing to do with the other report and is not a duplicate. It was most likely mishandled because it's about skins, its title sounds like a similar issue to the other one, and you submitted it at a time when we were receiving hundreds of duplicate reports about the other problem. The bug tracker is staffed by volunteers, not Mojang employees, and we aren't equipped to handle so many duplicate reports, so we took the unusual step of bulk processing the duplicates and your report just happened to match the filter we were using.

As the problem you're trying to report is with content entitlements associated with your accounts, that is personal information and we don't have access to it. (Neither would Scarlet at the Feedback site, presumably.) You need to start with the people who are authorized to see your account data, which depends on where you purchased it. (I'm not familiar with who that was for the PlayStation 4 edition, or I'd give you a link. It might be a Sony store for the PSN or the Minecraft Marketplace. I recommend starting with the latter, as PSN wouldn't have access to your current Xbox accounts.)

If it turns out there is an actual bug underlying this, they may send you back here. In that case, please create a new report to tell us what you see versus what they told you to expect. (Screenshots can be very helpful in such cases.) I will now re-close this ticket as Invalid because what it describes cannot be classed as a bug at this stage.
