I know there are a lot of closed similar issues. I tried really hard to find one similar to this.
Expectation:
Any server that can be connected to directly shows up on my friends list when a friend is playing on it.
Current behavior:
Friends on BDS don't show up on the friend list as playing/joinable.
Steps to reproduce:
Verify device is capable of joining BDS by joining BDS directly via hostname or IP address
Verify device is capable of seeing friend in friend list by having friend host a game using their Minecraft app (not-BDS but Bedrock edition)
Have friend join BDS
View friend list and see friend not-appear when they were appearing previously
Test Environment:
BDS 1.14.32.1 on Windows 10
Friend on Windows 10 or Android
Self on Windows 10 or Android
Tested:
(failed) Friend on Windows on BDS on LAN
(failed) Friend on Windows on BDS on WAN
(failed) Friend on Android on BDS on LAN
(failed) Friend on Android on BDS on WAN
I hope that's helpful. I suspect this is actually an undocumented feature of Alpha-BDS, but I hope it's just a bug.

In my experience (1.14.30, 1.14.32, 1.14.60) players on your local area network (LAN) do work, though I have only tested via PS4 and PC. Over the internet Win 10 players can connect, but over the internet PS4 players and XB ONE players cannot connect.
Not sure how helpful that information is, but I figure if It decides to get worked on as much information as possible is good.
It would be nice if these other versions had support for adding a server as the windows 10 version has.
Sounds like my report: [BDS-18634]
Can you confirm that? Changing the server name in the Server tab brings it back to the Friend tab?
Hi Ben,
Anecdotally it would appear none of the social features work for BDS instances. I would hazard a guess that this is a choice rather than a bug given that most platforms can't use BDS. That doesn't mean this will be closed as Invalid or anything, just putting in my 2c.
It tracks with the other missing issues like the inability to use the invite function etc.
