Minecarts can switch rails when running parallel

I have 3 minecarts with chests running parallel a distance about 150² blocks (from a farm to storage).
Sometimes the minecarts with chests jump to a neighboring rail and block another minecart with rail. It seems to happen mostly when the chunks the rail system is unloaded, but it will not do it consistently.
I am running this on a Minecraft Realms server if that is any help.
Thanks.

Also happens with hopper minecarts.

Can someone please check, if this still applies to 1.15.2 or the latest 1.16 development snapshot (currently that is 20w07a)?

I could reproduce it fairly easily with this setup.
From my testing, it seems to be a server-client desync when the minecart comes into view for the client.

This is still an issue on 1.16.4 and i'm so tired of it. I can't use rail systems anymore because of this glitch.

Marking 1.16.5 as affected (despite commenter mentioning 1.16.4) because the differences between these versions should not have affected minecarts in any way.

@unknown Are they actually changing tracks for you server-side as well?
From my testing it seemed to be a desync, where the client has wrong information about the Minecart's position, while it actually never changes tracks server-side and thus should not mess up any systems.

If you can reproduce it in a way, where the Minecarts actually stay on the wrong track even after rejoining the world, please do tell us how you reproduced that, possibly attaching your (zipped) world file.

Also note that even in single player, there is an integrated server component, so desyncs like that typically also affect single player.
