first nether portal in 1.10 spawns me 3k blocks up in the air and 14k blocks up in the overworld

So i deleted everything and started a new server, running 1.10pre2 and then updated to 1.10. Everything was running fine until we built a nether portal for the first time in that world. When we entered the portal, there was nothing, everything was black, and so we thought it was still loading, but then me and my friend both hit the ground too hard and died. I decided to investigate in creative mode. Upon entering the portal(in the overworld), it spawns us at Y~2738 in the nether,, a couple thousand blocks above the bedrock roof of the nether. It doesn't even generate a nether portal, we just pop up out of nowhere and start falling. I then land on the roof of the nether in the same XZ coordinates and create a nether portal to see if it would link with the portal in the overworld, but it didn't, it took me somewhere 7k blocks away from the overworld portal, and no generated portal again, we just pop up 14k blocks up in the sky.

Does this happen every time you use the portal?

Experienced this problem when we updated our server to 1.10. Going into the Nether was fine, but coming back it would teleport us into the Overworld with extreme Y variation (from Y = >3000 to Y = <0), which was odd since most of our portals are at Y = 119 in the Nether hub, and at first I thought that the game was multiplying the Y value by 8 in order to translate Nether to Overworld coords, but this didn't seem to happen consistently. We ended up reverting back to 1.9.4 and we now no longer experience these problems. We'll be waiting until 1.10.1, I guess.

Yes, it does happen whenever we use the portal.

Just to verify some things, could you force a crash report by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report ([minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]) here.

Your report will be reopened or properly resolved as soon as we receive this information.
