just noticed that i made it crash when i had all my mods so im recrashing it without mods 🙂

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Yes. I'm new to minecraft, but here's what I can tell you. I log in, and I am usually falling. Then I appear underground and can dig my way out. Not able to open chests or stove etc. but I can open doors. I am not able to stay on for more than a minute at a time before I am disconnected with this error. This was my first time connecting to a server, so I tried other servers. I was able to log on to one and everything worked fine. Tried from my girlfriends computer and it connected to the problem server fine, without any problem. It is on the same connection as me.

Just wanted to say that I am also having this exact issue. I'm playing completely without mods, but every time I try to log in to my friends server, I'm in for anywhere from a few seconds to maybe a minute, and then it crashes with this error.

My friend has checked the server logs for me after I crash, and all it says is disconnect.genericReason.

This did not start for me until this last update, but I haven't played for a while and started back in because of the redstone update, so I can't confirm exactly when it started.

Managed to print out the crash report when the error happens.

I can log in now, but I'm getting some heavy lag. If I activate a chest or something it takes about a minute then it opens.

Finally managed to stay in long enough to force a crash. Attached report.

i forgot to say that sometimes it says

Seriously I can't stand this... I've literally spent hours looking through the internet for a solution along with re installing the bin folders along with java 32 and 64 bit, its absolutely ridiculous..

I got nearly the same crash report as gvarados did. This seems to be happening when the Minecraft Client is attempting to do an HTTP Get to the url

As far as I remember, these issues first started to surface in 1.4 (and in a major way). Something changed in 1.4 that caused these errors to occur very frequently. You should examine the source control diffs for anything that might be new in relationship to socket connections

I run my copy of Minecraft manually through a batch file, to specify more memory... So I always have a Java console window open that is echoing information... The following stack trace appeared when this happened..

I have the exact same problem on a dc7800 that runs windows 7 64bit. I also have a gx270 that runs windows xp 32bit and plays minecraft perfectly. Every time i try to go on a minecraft with my dc7800 it will give me this exact error after 5-10 seconds. I tried older versions of java and tried java 32bit but nothing has worked. I have comodo firewall, antivirus and k9. Even if I shut all these things down, I still get this same error. It only happens on servers not in single player. I play minecraft 1.5.2 and I really want this bug to be fixed so I can play minecraft with my new computer. Thanks, I hope this is fixed soon.

okay, i think i know how to solve this problem (for me at least). So this only applies for people who have K9. All you need to do is to fully uninstall K9 then you have your minecraft back to its normal self. If you set it to monitoring or anything, it still crashes the game because it is some issues that K9 and minecraft have. You need to fully uninstall K9 or your game will be crashing.

Uninstalling K9 is not a solution. I've played minecraft for more than a year with K9 installed, so something has changed. On top of that, K9 is a critical program for many people, and uninstalling it is simply not an option.

My son was complaining about this yesterday and I spent a couple hours looking into it. Removing K9 did stop the disconnects. I reinstalled K9 (version 4.3.188) and I didn't get any disconnects. Then K9 upgraded itself to version 4.4.268 and after reboot the problem returned. Hope this helps.

OH. MY. GOSH. Are you kidding me??! I have spent HOURS messing with Norton, Java, and other computer settings, and it's just K9?? Gosh dangit. My Dad works for BlueCoat, I'm going to tell him about this issue. Thanks for posting that! I'll ask him if he can notify the people in charge of the newest update, and see what issues it's causing.

I was doing some wireshark traces and it looks to me like an incorrect sequence number in the ACK is what causes the server to stop sending packets, but I have not really spent time working with TCP in 10 years.

Oh, well that's good to know! I just asked my Dad about this, and he isn't currently aware of a way to manually override the new version. But he gave me a link to contact support, so I'll notify them of your findings here! Thanks for telling me this last piece of info, I think that will be seriously helpful for them to know!

Resolving as invalid as this is not a Minecraft issue.

UPDATE: K9 replied to my support Email, with the following: "Thanks for contacting K9 support. Sorry for the frustration. We are aware of the conflict between K9 and MineCraft. We are working on a solution, but do not know when it will be resolved. I will update you when we have a solution. Sorry for the inconvenience this has cause."

So it is now 100% Confirmed that the issue is on K9's end.

They are going to email me soon with details about a fix. I will post it here.

While K9 is obviously causing some part of this issue, the very fact that using older versions of minecraft also makes it go away proves that there is at least some problem in Minecraft contributing to this. No other game I play has any problem communicating over network or online, something has changed in Minecraft that is not behaving as it should.

It is very possible that K9 is seeing activity that is not normal and has good reason to see it as suspicious.

I haven't verified that, it could be the case. But that doesn't necessarily prove anything. Mojang has made changes to the way Minecraft online/networking works tremendously since the earlier versions, so It is safe to say there is a large chance that K9's recent update combined with Mojang's network code changes has become an issue. The older versions framework for Network connections was FAR different than it is today. Chances are the new code conflicts with K9. It is possible that this is NOT the issue, but it is more than likely.

Funny... I am experiencing a similar issue, and I do not run K9, or any such application. This other user's experience may include K9 doing something that is causing the error, but the plain and simple fact is, that the Minecraft client crashes because it does not handle this exception properly.

Things other than K9, evidently cause this problem. You simply need to trap the exception and handle it gracefully.

It is more than likely that it is a different program on your computer that is conflicting with the way that Minecraft is designed, in regards to the online game play. Do you know of all of the security programs you have installed? If you are comfortable, please post your programs list so that I can analyze and try to come to a diagnosis of which program is interfering with the sending and receiving data exception for Minecraft. Then from there you can proceed to contact support for the specific program you're using.

The only security related software I was running was AVAST Anti-Virus, and I disabled that in order to rule it out as a culprit. I still received the same error.

This issue may be caused by an interruption in network traffic, through some software, and/or hardware, but the fact remains... The exception needs to be trapped and handled gracefully, so the Minecraft client can resume communications with the server, rather than exiting abruptly, requiring the user to reconnect to the server.

I have to agree with Todd here, a simple lost packet should not be seen as a reason to stop communicating with the server altogether.

This is also why I have come to hate exception happy languages. A simple error code that does not interfere with normal control flow is far better, IMHO.

Well, to some degree. But the connection isn't "all together". It usually lasts anywhere between 0 and 20 seconds. The issue has been verified by BlueCoat, and I'm sure there is other software conflicting in a similar manner. I'll be doing some more testing and troubleshooting today and tomorrow. I'll post results here.

...that the problem seems to be agrivated by excessive levels of mobs in loaded chunks. In my case, I almost always see this problem, when I am in areas that contain a lot of mobs. Now... Does that mean that my router is dropping packets because it's saturated? Does my internet provider have an issue with the excessive amount of "mob tracking" going on? Is my network card in my PC having issues?

I have no idea.

I know that, back in the day, we had issues with Windows servers when they attempted to initiate more than 15 simultaneous outbound connections. We spent 6+ months with Microsoft, tracking this problem down on an enterprise class (Fortune 100) company's web site server cluster. Turned out to be a limitation in the Kernal code for Windows. (0-15 slots max)

Could we be running into something similar in someone's network stack, or a hardware limitation somewhere?

I think, if you can find a way to duplicate it (check my issue referenced above), the key would be able to reliably cause the issue to happen, on demand, then come up with a way to handle the situation gracefully from within the Minecraft client, so as to prevent sporadic disconnects.
