coal in furnace crashes the game

I made my very first furnace in order to smelt iron ore. Every signal time I place either coal or a wooden tool into the furnace the game instantly crashes.

When I reload the game the furnace was never crafted but the achievement for crafting the furnace is still present.

Oak wood planks and Birchwood planks do not crash the game when placed. The furnace smelted iron ore just fine when I used the wooden planks.

Steps to Reproduce:

100% all done in survival mode

Maximum coal, iron, diamond spanning up to 255. For real, set to the maximum.

Get wood
Get stone
Get coal
Get iron ore

Make a furnace on the crafting table
Set the furnace down
put either coal or a wooden tool into the fuel section of the furnace.

the second you put the coal in the slot the game closes and opens a crash report screen.
