Attempting to check if a furnace is cooking food appears to crash the player's client, I have tried this with raw_chicken and raw_beef items while using coal as a fuel source, both tries have crashed the client.

This crash also occurs when trying to do this with the lit_furnace block too.
Using charcoal -> Crash
When manually adding coal into a furnace while furnace is empty, this repros for me.
Removed all resource packs, still 100% repro when adding 58 coal.
1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 amounts of coal - all crash and repro.
I've added my crash log to the bug
Lava bucket - > Crash
Doesn´t crash if you´re using wood
Only wood not crash the furnace?
All other = crash.
Sticks crash it too 😞
I have crashes when trying to add item to furnace (coal and charcoal tried).
That's happened to me too.
Also when I go back to the game, the coal and charcoal are gone.
Created world from 16w38a, opened up in 16w39a after a bit of building. I put 8 oak logs into the top slot of a furnace (shift-clicked in). Put coal into the bottom, crash. Go back to game, logs are gone, and putting coal into the bottom slot of any furnace (whether shift-clicking or placing) crashes the game again with NPE: Updating Screen Events. Trace ends at asg.b (SourceFile:316).
The reason the items are gone is because they haven't been saved to the world yet.
If you save your world prior to putting suspect items in furnace, they will be there when you log back in.
it happens to me. The only thing that works is wood to cook and burn things.
For me and my friend, it specifically happened when cooking raw wood with sticks, and iron ore with coal. We didn't try food though.
Putting fuel in is what crashes it.
It's not resolved
@unknown, this is fixed for the next snapshot.
will that be released tomorrow because the game is unplayable.
I have problems with this same thing, but I put in a wooden pickaxe, and then the game crashed.
The game is still playable if you use wood planks instead coal or something else.
Trying to use any wooden tools as fuel also causes the game to crash.
Okay, but who wants to do that? Coal is way more efficient than other early-game fuel sources. It's basically unplayable to the majority of users.
Welp. I guess I should have tested my theory first.
I have to take that back because I've just discovered that coal blocks work. I'm still hoping this gets fixed soon though.
This is not a discussion board. If you'd like to discuss the issue further, please go to the Mojira subreddit. Snapshots are experimental versions of the game and you should expect bugs.
Using hooper to pass coals crash.
confirmed.
