My minecraft sound only works when I change the mipmap levels in video settings.

To get my Minecraft sound to work, every time, I need to go into my video settings and change the mipmap levels. Can I fix this so that I don't need to do it every time?

Please attach the complete output of the "Game Output (Your Minecraft name) " which can be found on the fourth tab of the launcher to this ticket.

If the launcher closes after game start, please edit your profile and select "Launcher visibility" then, "Keep the launcher open".

The same thing happened to me just now in minecraft 1.12.2. I opened minecraft, there was no sound at all. No option in the volume mixer for minecraft volume, closing and reopening the game did nothing. Changing mip map levels fixed the issue. I really want to know why changing a setting for textures is able to allow sound again, or why the sound doesn't work in the first place. It happens randomly and pretty rarely, so it may be hard to reproduce the results, but this bug has been around for a long time and plenty of people know about it. It isn't too big of a deal, it's just very odd and unexpected behavior.

You need to fix this. It is so annoying and every time it happens, I have to change mipmap levels. It's more common for me (About 40% chance) because I have a worse computer than you, maybe. And takes forever for the mipmaps to change, alternatively, you could use F3+T but it takes roughly the same time as mipmap changing.

I can confirm this, it happens to me occasionally, but not all the time, and it seems random. I just encountered the issue in 1.12.2, but I have yet to see it happen in the latest snapshot or release, again since it's random and may be difficult to reproduce. Just realized I already commented before, I'll be sure to make a note on it again if I encounter it in the latest release/snapshot, but it is difficult to reproduce.

Found the reason why changing mipmaps fixes the "no sound" issue: mipmaps restart the sound rendering
