After downloading latest version game crashes

After updating to the latest version of minecraft the game now crashes.
On the "Select World" menu "Unknown Version" is written beside each of the worlds that I have created before the present update. When any of these worlds are selected the program opens for a short period and then crashes. It creates a bug report:
