When joining a world or server, memory gets allocated but never released. When rejoining the same world/server, new memory is used anyways. Sometimes the space used seems to jump back down a little but it does not cancel out the new allocation. The RAM needed by the game after a couple of restarts seems to exceed the number specified by "f3". This also seems to happen when rejoining the same server over and over again.
I was able to "reproduce" it many times (as in: over the past months I sometimes had to restart minecraft to keep it from using swap space 😉 )

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report (minecraft/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt) here.
Done 🙂
EDIT: Accidentally did the crash in 1.10, but it still works in 1.11. The first time save+quit seems to free memory correctly, but that's just my impression.
Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (currently that is 1.12.2, or 18w01a) of Minecraft? If so, please update the affected versions and help us keeping this ticket updated from time to time. If you are the owner/reporter of this ticket, you can modify the affected version(s) yourself.
If you want some 'video evidence' I can show you, just ask 🙂
(Haven't made any because it takes so long)
