[MC-112012] Cannot write § in Book and Quill

According to official MC wiki (http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Formatting_codes) you can write § in Book and Quill
However, I can't do it - the character doesn't appear. What's wrong?

The § symbol is a forbidden character, and as such cannot be typed.

The wiki is not an official source, it's community managed.

Because they put it there, not Mojang. See on this page: https://minecraft.net/en/help/?ref=bm

Where the wiki is listed under "Unofficial help resources".

The character can be pasted in with Ctrl+V and appears as a character flashing between 0 and 7. At least, that's how it worked a few versions ago. If it's changed, then Mojang isn't responsible for updating the wiki.
