Trying to open statistics will cause the game to hang on "Downloading Statistics" and the screen will never show. Tested on both new and old worlds. Maybe connected to MC-114883. You don't need to do anything for the bug to occur, it happens even on new worlds.
Just pause the game and navigate to the statistics screen and the game will just say "Downloading Statistics" with no change, pressing ESC will unpause the game as normal.
