When i use the new launcher, minecraft wont open so i have to use the old one, however everyone is a steve or an alex

I tried to reinstall minecraft but instead of having a bunch of folders like usual i only got 4 and now skins wont load correctly. If i go on a server i am a steve and everyone else is steve/alex and i dont find it amusing being one of favorite gamemodes is murder mystery
