Vines break if placed beneath a block they cannot connect to

If a vine is attached to a wall, and a block is placed above the vine that it cannot attach to, the vine deletes itself. Vines cannot be placed in such positions, and the item is not consumed. The vine clearly has a block it can attach to horizontally, but the block above is required to be air or a block that a vine can connect to in order for the vine to exist.
