I can't see skins, only Steve's and Alex's

I'm playing on 1.12.2 because whenever I try to run the new one, it just crashes but the older launcher seems to work. Is there anyway to fix my skin problem of only seeing Alex and Steve? I've redownloaded minecraft and I've restarted the computer as well too.
