Can't shift-click items into furnace

Whenever I try to shift-click foods or ores in the furnace GUI, it won't work, and it works as if I were moving stuff around in my inventory.

However, whenever I try to shift-click fuel in, it works as expected, except it doesn't. When I close it and re-open it, the fuel reappears in my inventory. I have to place everything in manually.
