Just purchased - single player crash on startup; can't play 1.12.2

I just bought this game for my son.
He was very exited only to get sorely disappointed.
We tried creating a world for him in single player.
Program gets busy (generating terrain or something) and eventually pops a larger window (which I suppose it the actual game's window), then crashes.
I restarted the same, enabled logging - same thing.
Here is the log, 100% repeatable:

So far, I ain't happy guys and neither is my kid.
Get cranking or I am getting a refund.

BTW, on the window with the 'CLOSE' button, clicking 'View crash report' does nothing.

Thanks!

The issue you're having is this one: MC-34749.

To clear this up, this platform is not a support desk, but a place for the community to post bugs. We mods are volunteers, and not paid by Mojang.

Hi violine1101,
in that case, a thank you is in order, much appreciated.

Where is the official support?
I paid, so we have a standing legal agreement with MOJANG.
I am happy to bang on their desk instead.
Thing is, I am seeing a huge MOJANG logo on top.

Thank you and I wish you all a Happy Easter!

Mojang is still a small company, so they can't offer technical support.

However, there are community support resources (most notably, the #minecrafthelp IRC channel) that can be used if you have problems with Minecraft running on your machine.

Also, the Mojang Help portal can be used for general questions about Minecraft. They also offer customer service there if you got any problems with your Mojang or Minecraft account (read this if you want to get a refund).

To clarify, this website is hosted and used by Mojang, but the tickets are managed by us volunteers.

Thank you for clearing that up.
Seems I can get refund until 15 days, so I have plenty of time left.
Just one more question, if I may.
What's your release cycle?
I mean, I can see that my report has been flagged as duplicate and the original says it's been fixed.
When would that fix be visible on my end?
Thing is, I don't want to set false expectations to my kid again, so I want to try alone before I tell him it's fixed.
Thank you!

This is not a Minecraft bug, so we cannot fix this issue on our end. Please follow the instructions described in MC-34749:

This issue is most commonly caused by a broken installation of Avast! free edition Anti-virus software. A reinstallation of Avast! and a reboot usually fixes it. McAfee anti-virus software (and derivatives) are also know to cause this issue, and currently the only known solution is to uninstall this software to correct the problem. Also Outpost security may cause that issue.

If this doesn't fix your issue, please use the #minecrafthelp IRC support channel.

Hi Bemoty,
thanks for chipping in.
I don't have Avast and I don't have McAfee or Outpost Security.
I do have Outpost Firewall - I wonder.
I for one, am not going to expose my PC to the internet without a firewall, that's for sure.
Asking that is generally equivalent of saying "f*** **f, it's your problem, not mine".

Minecraft is a Java-based app and no other Java-based tool or game is crashing here (I do have 4-5 of those).
So, it must be Minecraft-specific; something weird that an overly sensitive antivirus or a firewall would pick up.

I know it's very convenient to point fingers, so let me ask this:
What is the issue here?
What is this "failed to create a child event loop" in io.netty.util.concurrent.MultithreadEventExecutorGroup.<init>?
If you know what it is, you can most certainly fix it for good.
So what is it?
Is it that you don't know or you do know but you don't want to or don't know how to fix it? ('you' is a collective you as in devs/community, however this mess works.)

Is there any build or version of Minecraft that I could use?
I went back a few, they all crash.
The timestamp on that report you linked is from 2013⚠️ .

Thank you!

We neither have the knowledge nor the time to help users with technical support issues. I already told you what's causing this, however, I don't know why those programs are causing this to happen.

Again, this is not an issue within Minecraft, this is something the developers of some security softwares need to fix.
And no, we are not saying that we don't care about your problem, we're just saying that you're at the wrong place to ask for stuff like this, so please, for the last time, please use the community IRC support; this is a bug tracker, not a support forum.

Oh, one last thing. Please be a bit more humble when asking for help next time. We understand that you're disappointed, but there is no need for this passive-aggressive behavior, really. We're just volunteers, we try our best to get everything working and done. This platform is definitely not a mess and also not a place for telling us to "get cranking"...
