Sea Grass, Kelp, and Sea Pickles

The Sea Grass, Kelp, and Sea Pickles all are not able to be placed outside of oceans. The Sea Pickles are especially strange because they are able to be placed outside of oceans and underwater, but they cannot glow and show the other texture of the "goo" spewing out of the top of them when they are underwater. Is this supposed to happen? Also, when the pickles are placed outside of oceans but underwater, they make airspace between them. For example, If you were to switch into spectator mode and fly into the block that they are on, then quickly switch to survival, you would get a quick second of air. It also shows there being air around the pickle.
