Giant Spruce Trees

When some redstone blocks (Observer, repeater, etc..) are placed near a 2x2 of spruce saplings, the tree will never grow until these blocks are removed. But the tree does grow even when its covered by a lot of other blocks the tree grows just fine. Also if only one dispenser is placed the tree grows just fine. WIth one sapling the blocks around it does not matter.
