While hanging from a ladder, right click a nearby door.
If the door is closed you will open it correctly, but if it is open it will not close.
Unable to reproduce in single player creative, but noticed it happens in Survival Multiplayer.

“Slightly” confirmed (door won’t open nor close) but I guess that happens because of default key configuration and the fact that shift+click does not interact but place blocks on other blocks that can be interacted with.
When “hanging from a ladder” it’s likely you press shift. With an Item in hand (tested with a door, a torch, and food) Minecraft tries to place that item instead of interacting with the door.
Tested with locally hosted server in creative mode.
