The game log shows the following message while in this situation:

I believe this is an issue with the game not recognizing 32x32 ascii or unicode files, which is a big issue.

This, in turn, causes only a portion of the chinese characters to render properly.

This issue is related to MC-133372.

Affects 18w32a, but now some characters simply appear as white boxes. The potion of the turtle master still has "ZW SP" in its name as well.
