Loading 1.12.x map into 1.13-pre6/7 issue

So I tried to load my current map I use on my server(ver 1.12.2) into 1.13 pre6(and 7) and the land on the right half of my spawn area was basically regenerated with a ravine and more than half my buildings are missing. For those of us that run public servers, do we HAVE to reset all maps and start from scratch? Does 1.13 use a different world generation algorithm than 1.12 because of the new biomes? I even tried just using the same seed to generate a new 1.13 map and that same ravine appears at my spawn coordinates. Also note that the water/ocean area from the complete spawn is completely missing from the one that is cut in half. Please see attached pictures for visual reference.

EDIT: 1.13 pre6 had the ravine...  in 1.13 pre7, the ravine is gone, but so is half of my spawn still...

1.13 does use a different world generation algorithm, in fact, it was completely rewritten.

Can you upload the world where this happened?
And yes, the world population changed a bit, while the terrain itself should look mostly the same. It should not eat half your spawn an regenerate it, though.

This issue is not resolved yet. I haven't had a chance to respond until now. As I stated before, this is the map I use for my server. The .zip file would be too large to upload, and I really don't want anyone else to have a copy of it. Instead, can you list possible reasons this might happen? Or, is there a smaller bit of data I can upload to you that would not compromise the identity and contents of the map? If not, I guess I just copy/paste my spawn back in the same area, but I'd rather not have to do that.

You could try to use MCEdit to remove everything but the spawn. It is also okay to use a different site to upload the file and link it here (e.g. Dropbox), in case it exceeds the maximum file size on Jira.
If it happens when you recreate the world with the same seed in 1.12.2 (or any other version you can name) and try to upgrade it, the seed would be sufficient as well. But it might be related to something you build at spawn or something else that is stored in the chunk data.
Basically any way to reproduce this issue will be enough.

Please upload the world (or just the affected area if you would like) to a website such as Mediafire, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc and provide the link here. If you want, you can set this issue to private so only moderators and developers can access to it.

Sorry for my delayed responses. After further investigation, I've found the problem is most likely the fault of something in the way I used WE to copy/paste parts of my spawn... Could possibly be related to region protections I had in place. Sorry to waste your time, all.
