When large quantities of chickens (have not tested other mobs) are in an area, there is a very distinct crackling amidst all of the clucking. See the attached picture for a look at my chicken pen, so you can see how many there are. With that amount of chickens the crackling is almost as annoying as 100+ chickens clucking at once. I'm not sure what would cause this, maybe something with the chicken's audio file for clucking? I could not hear a crackle when it was only a few chickens.
It should be mentioned that I am using Jappa's new default texture pack in the picture, but this has no effect on the crackle (I don't think it has custom audio at all) and it was still just as audible without the texture pack on.
Thanks,
Ethan

It might be the chicken's footstep sounds constantly playing when the chickens are pushing against each other.

It's definitely some kind of audio bug, I've heard hundreds of footsteps from other mobs and it doesn't sound like this. Hopefully it'll get patched in 1.13.x

It's the chicken's footstep sound, I know what you mean

It didn't crackle like that before, I've made many a chicken pit in my life and I've never heard the kinds of sounds coming from that place. It could be the footsteps, but it would be something wrong with the footstep audio then, not just the sound of a hundred footsteps
