[MC-135109] You can "fly" if you open inventory while holding shift

If you sneak and move to the edge of a block, and open your inventory before releasing shift, you can "fly" on the edge of the block. However, if you do not open the inventory and simply release shift, this will not occur.

Nah, it doesn't have anything to do with opening your inventory, it's just what happens when you stop sneaking
