/spawnpoint will not work if there is no bed right there

So I tried something in minecraft and set my spawnpoint in the air, then I wrote /kill @p and died, as I respawn I respawned in the world spawn instead and saw that my spawnpoint got removed... If you will not fix it soon, I can see now how many maps will be broken...
