Iron Golems do not spawn in forceloaded chunks

i was messing around with the new force load command and i thought let's build a iron farm and i've let it run all night on the server with people on and no iron golems did spawn while there was no one around even though forceload is on. when i'm nearby iron golems did spawn.
the iron farm is in the middle of the chunk and i've force loaded some surrounding chunks as well.

i know it works for spawnchunks but not for forceloaded ones.

From the looks of it, forceloaded chunks do not undergo the usual entity processing, but neither do spawn chunks for that matter.

i had mulitple worlds where i've put this farm in spawnchunks and it always worked mobs can spawn in spawnchunks and entities act like there is a player in the chunk.
so i don't get why force loaded chunks don't do that

Maybe it's only iron golem spawning that doesn't work? The process that causes villages to spawn iron golems seems to be distance-invariant, but regular hostile mob spawning, for example, relies on player distance.

I can confirm this is an issue. I have an average sized iron farm on a server and it works perfectly fine while anybody's in range. We've used the /forceload command all around it, and while players are almost always online, it hasn't gained any iron in the amount of time I've waited.

@unknown+@unknown How many chunks around the iron farm did you also /forceload?
If it's not 5x5 around it, do that, and please get back to me, whether or not that worked for you.

(There's another bug regarding /forceload which technically shouldn't have to require you to forceload all 5x5, but for the sake of future readers and reproduction purposes, I'll leave it in like this, the mentioned forceload-bug will be addressed later in another bugpost.)

Chunks used to be entity processing if a 5x5 area of chunks is loaded around them.

In the snapshots (tested in 18w50a) it seems that entities only get processed in chunks which are either loaded by a player or by the spawn chunks.

MC-136320 describes the same issue when loading the chunks with hoppers.

Is this still an issue in the latest version?

It's still an issue in 1.14 pre-release 4, foreceloaded chunks don't seem to be processing entities.
