THis is my first time here... So calm down but i wont do it again! Trust me
not a bug. what do you think would happen in real life? you think the horse would just let you sit on while he suffocates? or do you think it would kick you of so it can swim to the surface? 🙂
Please mark this as works as intended
actually horses can swim in real life
So even if Horses can swim, do you think a horse will let you drown it? Let's say I'm playing Chicken and I'm on your shoulders and I can move you around. Then I force you to go underwater. Would'nt you try to get me off that way you can BREATHE? Think of it that way. Even if a pig can do it (go under 2 blocks of water if they can) doesn't mean Horses should.
I expected to be kicked off here, but my issue is now it wont let me get back on. it claimed that I was still riding when it threw me off. when i dismounted it seamed to tp and then when i tried to mount it again it would turn me around and do nothing
I cannot reproduce this. I can go into water 2 blocks deep. After that, horses are supposed to kick you off. When horses go back on land, I can get back on them normally. (Sorry for the multiple edits)

I think the horse is going to concentrate on getting to the surface, or to shore, and not bother with attempting to remove the relatively light weight of a person from their back. Also, in Minecraft, isn't the horse just going to drown without you directing it back to shore?
Horses should just be able to swim, like other mobs, such as pigs.
Confirmed.
So this should be marked as Work As Intended, correct?

Unfortunately there has yet to be confirmation that this is intended behaviour.
Oh that makes sense. Does the Wiki count as proof?
I got that bug at server too, I had to manually push the horse to a less deep water to be able to continue riding it.
My last comment was wrong. I'm not sure if this occurs in multiplayer. This bug never existed. Horses only kick you off if the water is deeper than two blocks.
If horses kick you off in water deeper than 2 blocks in single player, it will happen the same in multiplayer too.
This is working as intended. I cannot produce and should be marked invalid. I don't know why this is an issue.
How can this be work as intented? That's just not normal, not work as intented, neither invalid, and this is an issue because horses shouldn't kick you off in deep water.
Horses are supposed to kick you off in water deeper than two blocks.
I do not think that they should knock you off. Horses can (or probably should) be able to swim in Minecraft, and they will sometimes drown without direction. This issue is already marked as "confirmed," and I agree that this does not work, because it makes it hard to impossible to get your horse across large waters with it kicking you off every time it dips below the water.
With the current versions, horses are supposed to kick you off. This is not a bug. This is intended behavior. I do agree with Eric on how horses should be able to swim, though. It also does get annoying how horses can't swim, and should be added to the description, as they should be able to swim.
How can you know if that's an intended behavior? If that bug is present on current versions, it's because they haven't fixed that bug yet. How can be intended that horses kick you off in deep water if horses can swim as other mobs do.
I read something on the wiki that said horses kick you off in water deeper than two blocks. I'm not sure if this is true or not now.
Remember, the wiki can be edited by anyone, and it usually reports on what is currently true, and not necessarily intended. It can also be wrong, or written with an opinion.

Please note that there has yet to be confirmation from any of the Devs about whether or not this issue is considered intended behaviour. Although this is what has been documented on the wiki, keep in mind that this is a feature in a snapshot, and like many other features in development may too be subject to change. Any further discussion about this issue should be kept on the Minecraft Forums., as this website is intended to be used as a bug tracker rather than a discussion board.
Yeah, and the guy who added that information to the wiki does not know it's a bug.
Ok then. I was then falsely informed on this. I now understand this is not confirmed as a bug or is intended behavior.

Tested with 13w16c 13w18c, horses can now be ridden in water as deep as 2 blocks. I would conclude that the current behaviour for deeper water (player is dismounted and horse swims) is therefore intended, at least in general. There's still an inconvenience though in that a swimming horse doesn't seem to actively head for land or more shallow water to give the player a fair chance to mount again.
Another thing that makes horses and water difficult is that there's no way to make a horse swim, such as holding space works for unmounted people. One thing that could make swimming possible or easier would be to make holding space "swim" when in water, and possibly change the jumping mechanic to how long you hold space after the jump instead of "charging" the jump. It's probably too late to change this, and there is probably another way, but I think it would make things smoother.
Seriously jeb...? Work as Intended...? I don't think so... That shouldn't happen at all...
If Jeb says, it goes. You shouldn't question a person so high on the ladder as to say. Maybe he'll change it. But for now, it works as intended.
Thanks for the clarification, Mike, but it would be best to remain respectful to the devs.
Please do not mark issues as affecting future versions, as you could not have tested those.
