The game crashes on startup

After pressing play in the launcher, the game begins to start up. The Minecraft window opens up with the MINECRAFT title against the white background. The window will then close and return to the launcher without even getting to the game's main menu. There is a crash notification that reads "an unexpected issue has occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience". There is also a crash report that is attached.
