Null Pointer Exception Error-MC Server

After playing the Minecraft snapshot 13w16a on a server (EXE) eventually I got a message stating: [SEVERE;END OF STREAM]. This caused the server to say java.lang.nullpointerexception. I noticed that whenever the server states the end of stream message, that will appear and thus render the server permanently unplayable until you re-download.
