I have been watching the squids for a bit, and while it is ~~not~~ currently confirmed for 19w12a, the core of the issue is that the squids sometimes hop out of the water. They are able to make a few splashes.

This was done in a small, square lake (4x9).

edit: Slabs cause the issue to appear rather quickly, even if you spawn the squid in 1 block deep water. Also, some visual changes to this comment.
