Chunks have Lighting errors that are unfixable

Chunks in my world have a weird lighting glitch i cannot fix. Breaking blocks, and relogging dont fix it. I am on a server running the new version.

I'm having the same problem here. Closing the world and reloading it helps for the chunk I'm in and some nearby, but the problem still persists elsewhere. It's getting really frustrating because not only can I not see, but mobs will spawn like crazy in these dark patches even in broad daylight. F3+A to reload the chunks does not fix it. I'm on the new Pre-Release update.

I experienced the same error, but was able to "fix" it by making a pillar of solid blocks that reached the sub-chunk above the the affected area. This caused the sky-light level to update.

It is probably a duplicate of MC-142134.

it might help to know that:

  • the dark chunk (almost always light level 0, in 1 case light level 3) goes from badrock to a Y level ranging from 80 to 120 in my case. Above that Y the light level (both server and client) goes back to 15.

  • when placing a block above the Y limit (so in the bright part of the chunk) fixes ONLY the visual light level.

  • The behavior of the chunk does not change! Mobs keeps spawning as if it was dark even if it's light level 15 on F3 information.

  • Restarting the server turns the chunk back to dark. In some cases the light is (again only visual) is ok but leaving the zone and going back darkens it again.

  • This happens in a radius (i couldn't really count the chunks) around from where i last logged out. Everything beyond that (already generated or new map) is fine.

  • I tried messing around with render distances (client and server) and other video options with no luck.

[Edit] it got resolved while i was writing 🙂
