Blank Map Glitch

Some maps go blank after being filled in. This has happened to 3 out of around 20 maps made. They fill in while I am in the area, then I get home and some are blank- no cursor or info on it except the map number. If I go back to the area and create a new one it doesn't seem to repeat the issue. If put in an item frame the frame goes to fill the entire box but no map appears. Tried restarting game etc. and the same maps remain blank. If I go back to the area the map does NOT fill in. Maps affected are seemingly random.
