End Gateway found in outer islands kills you when going through it

After I finally defeated an ender dragon for the first time in my survival world, I went straight to the end gateway portal. I spawned right next to an end city, which was good, but after I reaped all of its loot, I felt like going exploring to find another one. After all, the only chests I found in the first one were from the end ship. I travelled pretty far with my Elytra, until I found another gateway portal different from the one I used to enter the outer islands. I decided to go through since I had already lost my way to get to my original portal, and then when I went through, It teleported me to the central island, or at least UNDERNEATH the central island. I died, there was nothing I could have done, and I lost all my best loot, because this bug caused any end gateway portal found without killing the ender dragon to teleport you directly above the void near the central island.
