Game crashed immediately after entering world on new install

Just installed minecraft and it crashes every time immediately upon trying to start a game.  It lets you create or open a world and then crashes as soon as the game attempts to start.

To reproduce:

Click Launcher icon

Click Play

single player

Select world

play selected world

Crash

Every time
