Just casually playing around, I struck a Mooshroom with a lightning bolt, attached a lead to it. I placed somes fences and attached the lead to the fences. One of the fences just randomly changed its block state.

That's awesome. I am not sure if the fence was trying to connect to the lightning, or the mooshroom. I wonder if placing a block outside the post will cause it to return to normal. If so it could be related to the timing issue with game ticks that seem to be affecting observers.
