Sponge doesn't initially absorb and retain water anymore.

Before the 1.14.4 update, sponge would clear water in a 5x5x5 area and if it wasn't place in water (running or source) it would remain dry. But now you have to place the sponge in the water to clear water, then it turns into wet sponge and doesnt retain any of the water so it refills all of the water right away, making sponge completely useless. I have some pictures of how i was clearing water before the update and then how it has to be done now.

the lines of sponge towards the back of the photo are all dry, they were placed before the update. The sponges towards the foreground of the picture are half and half and only are like that because I had used an auto-clicker to place it as i was flying. It affects every version of minecraft all the way back to 1.8 (which was as far as i tested). Can this be reverted please?

From that photo it looks like the sponges are working as intended according to the wiki. Those two sponges on the dirt wall aren't going to do anything. There's a block separating them from the water.

robbage, the problem is that its almost impossible to clear water with the sponge anymore because sponge doesn't hold water back anymore, the water instantly refills itself. That's the bug, this was not a thing before 1.14.4, but now it has changed and it was not mentioned in changelog at all, which leads me to believe this was a mistake.

Possibly due to a change in water dynamics with the aquatic update rather than a bug with sponges.

If im not mistaken, the water update was 1.13. the sponges worked fine in 1.14.3, i used them in 1.14.3, then they release 1.14.4 and all versions of minecraft have this wierd thing happening with sponges.

Could it be a mechanics of infinite water sources? When I was clearing monuments I had to use more sponges sometimes due to reappearing water sources.

You are simply mistaken.

A spigot server is indeed modded, Minecraft versions do not share mechanics in a common library, and this behavior did not change between 1.14.3 and 1.14.4.

Then why has this stopped working, I have observed this in more than just a server. I played in singleplayer and it wasn't like this, and now all of a sudden it doesn't work. Oh i know why, because its a bug. i wish  I had a video of me doing this before the update and then a video of now just so that i can show that this is indeed a bug and is not normal, now that you have resolved this on your own accord i am powerless to do anything about this issue that is still relevant because you failed to ask whether or not i had observed the same issue in single player.

Oh and also no one else will be able to give their input on the matter, maybe perhaps someone from mojang, granted i know not all tickets can be resolved and looked at by mojang, but seriously, something isn't right with sponges anymore, the point of sponges was to clear water, please tell me how am i supposed to clear water with sponges if the water always backfills?!

If you can attach such a video (demonstrating the old behavior in vanilla 1.14.3), I will gladly reopen

Hang on let me look and see if there are any plugins that affected sponges, idk what is going on

welp i concede, im just crazy at this point
