This is the third time this has happened.
I have broken and replaced my shulker boxes dozens of times, maybe over a hundred times since 1.14.4 was released, this has only happened 3 times
each shulker box had been recoloured, and two were named i think.
I mined my brown shulker box unnamed in the overworld, at height 5 with my diamond efficiency 5 pickaxe. shulker box breaks, but no shulker box item appears to pick up. there were at least 5 blocks of air above the shulker box, and clear space in 7 of the 8 surrounding blocks i believe
I placed my white shulker box named "valuables" in a dispenser inside spawn protection. I pressed the button and shulker box was placed as usual, i accessed the box and pressed the piston button to return the shulker box and it broke, but I could not see any shulker box item, i logged out and in, and saw the item for a moment, but it vanished almost immediately and i was unable to pick it up, no amount of moving through the space or re-logging restored the box.
I mined my orange shulker box named "highway wood" in the nether, at height 100 with my diamond efficiency 5 pickaxe. shulker box breaks, but no shulker box item appears to pick up. there were at least 3 blocks of air above the shulker box, and 3 of the 8 surrounding blocks were air, 2 were oak plank slabs and 3 were netherrack . I was pushing against the box when it broke.

the first time this happened there was a moment of lag, so the server may have been low on cpu, the other two times I didn't notice excessive lag.
I've just had another player on the server report the same issue.
I'm guessing from the rarity of this error that it would be some kind of race condition between the box being broken, spawning the box item and some sort of anti-dupe code. Note, I have not been duping, but I assume that anti-dupe code would be one of the few things that could erase a shulker box before it is picked up.

woot! I just made all three brown shulker boxes vanish!
I broke them, and even though they broke properly, I immediately logged out and back in. the first time i managed to lose two of them, the second time i logged in too slowly, and the shulker box stayed, so I broke it again, logged out and immediately logged in and it vanished!
I don't know if the first times were server/client visual glitches, followed by a too quick log out and back in, which then erased the boxes, I'll get more boxes and try again
after talking to one of the admins, it looks like 1.14.4 has a bug, possibly unsolvable if it is due to lag, where your shulker box item can become invisible at least for a short time after breaking the box. If you relog on our server to try and reload it, anti hacking command blocks delete the invisible shulker box item.
This issue can probably be closed, I'll keep an eye out to make sure everything fits those guesses.
