Chests "explode" dropping items in the End Dimension, for no reason

I put some items in a chest in the end, left, and returned only for them to all be on the ground, with the chest gone, not dropped. I put another chest down and did the same thing, and it exploded again. The dragon had been defeated, so there would be no reason for that to happen
