1-activate nether's portal
2-enter the nether
3-grab a cauldron
4-grab a bucket of water
5-put the water in the cauldron
6-Error activated!

This has been happening for a very long time. ( I think since cauldrons were added) but it seems to be a feature. If you catch on fire, you can actually extinguish yourself in the water. And since the water cannot be extracted and placed in the nether, it doesn't break the game.
