Confirmed.
Walking / running on snow layer gives not the sound of the unterlying block.

Clarification:
When walking on snow / carpet, the player walks still on the underlying block (the y coordinate does not increase). When walking on snow, the sound of the underlying block is surpressed, when walking on carpet not.
When jumping, the player is in the the coordinate of the carpet block
Both effects visible at the sprinting particles.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Note: this is a automatic message, so apologies if I miss something.

This is still noticeable in 1.6.2.

It does this with blocks like Redstone repeaters and comparators, snow and torches.

Noticed in 1.7.4. Jumping while moving (walking or sprinting) on carpet, wool related sounds can still be heard.

Confirming in latest snapshots (14w02a) 14w02b.

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w08a? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Still a concern in 14w08a.

Better explanation: Jumping over a carpet block and having your lower body pass through the air part of the carpet block causes the sound of landing on wool.
Still a concern in 14w21b.
It's easy to replicate just place down one carpet and jump over it a couple of times.

Confirmed in 15w46a (still an issue).

confirmed in 1.19 as still an issue
