I have a bow with 5 enchantments , Power V, Unbreaking III, Infinity, Punch II, Flame , but it seems depending on which order the enchantments are in the book, will depend on whether it will enchant a fresh bow or not. I've enchanted several bows before with these enchantments, with no issues, the order of enchantments is different on my original enchanted bow.
The first screen is my current enchanted bow, and the others are me trying to enchant a fresh bow with a book i created with all the enchantments. I have done it this way several times and not had any issues with "too expensive" until now, but i'm not sure if the enchantments have to be in a specific order to stack correctly and not get the too expensive warning.

I understand the cost goes up, but i am saying i have made this bow several times from a book with all the enchantments. So i have to add them to the book in a certain order for it to work ? i read some of the linked page, but damn that's confusing to me, lol
Might just have rto AFK fish and use pre-enchanted bows like i used to 🙂

This is not really easy to explain. I guess the best advice I could give is that when combining items, make sure that the two items you combine always have been combined equally as often. For instance, combining a fully enchanted book with a non-enchanted bow will cost more than combining a bow with half of the enchantments with a book with the other half.
This is intentional, see MC-2307.

TL;DR: Every time you combine an item, the cost to combine that item gets doubled; at some point you won't be able to combine an item anymore.
