The bug
When attempting to bind certain keyboard keys to in-game controls, some nonstandard buttons will be displayed as "scancode.###", where "###" is a three-digit number.
Expected results
These buttons would have proper names displayed in the key binds menu representing what that button actually is.
Actual results
The name of the key is displayed as "scancode.###" instead of the actual key name.
Keys for which this happens
In the interests of brevity and to prevent excess notifications from being spammed at ticket followers, these are now tracked on a page on the Minecraft Wiki: https://minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_untranslated_keys
You may view the history of this ticket for earlier results in the event of a wiki outage.
Further notes
A (potentially outdated) list of scancodes can be found at the following page (originally linked from MC-265449): https://www.win.tue.nl/~aeb/linux/kbd/scancodes-1.html#ss1.2

Your report does not need to be confirmed in order to get fixed, this is just a way of showing whether anyone else was able to reproduce the issue.

@unknown please make a new report about the "Meta to Left Alt" since that is a different issue then the scancodes

Can I have ownership of this issue? I can confirm that 23w40a is affected, and have some further information to contribute. The ability to edit this report to organize these results would be very helpful. The original reporter does not seem to have any activity past early 2020.
It's literally been a year and a half can a helper please confirm or resolve this?
