I’ve checked using a shader pack and it does appear to actually render as solid rather than cutout. Possible subpixel bleed/mapping issue?
Is this still the case as of the seventh 26.1 snapshot, or do the model changes resolve this problem?

See MC-62118. Planes were missing in that case, and that ticket was fixed. Other than the connectedness, this one is no different. The outcome is anisotropic, bizarre, and easily fixable.
