Both player hurt and death sound events are played when a player dies

When a player dies, both the hurt and death sound events play. Since they use the same player hurting sounds (but different subtitles), this makes it sound like the hurt sound is being played twice upon death.

To reproduce

  • Turn on subtitles, or use a resource pack to change entity.player.death to play a different sound.

  • Type /kill

I can reproduce, however it only seems to do it on and off. Out of 50 tries it only played twice 2 times

Made some changes to the report; the cause seems to be that both the player's hurt and death sound events (which use the same sounds by default, but different subtitles) are played when a player dies. It becomes more noticeable when they don't play perfectly in sync.

And in fact this was previously reported as MC-165324, I'll add the details to that report as well.
