2x2 spruce don't grow from saplings. Tried Taiga and snowy tundra biomes. Plenty of space, time, and attempts. I've done this many times before and very recently. 😞

Not a bug according to the wiki FWIW. "...requires the 4x4 area centered on the saplings at the same level to be empty."

Problem found...Snow ground-cover counts as a blocking block next to sapling. Clearing snow from around saplings allowed them to grow normally. Not a bug???
