bubble columns not working when not in open water

As seen in picture and video the bubble column is not working when not in open water.

To make this happen just creating a bubble column like in the picture (not in open water bubble columns work in open water)

It isn't just the particles not rendering, the bubble columns don't work.

Please see the video.

The issue is not resolved.

There need to be source blocks all the way from the soul sand up
