If we change the max-build-height value in the server.properties on Minecraft Java Edition Server, after we start the server, the server resets it to the default value (max-build-height=256). It doesn't matter if we change to a smaller or bigger, new or old world.

Yes, I tired in my laptop, desktop pc and I asked my friend to try it and he has the same issue like me. (always with a new empty server)
Ok, I tried it, and it's working fine in the newest pre-release, but I don't understand why can't I set a greater number than 256 (like 512 is also multiple of 8), but if the height is 248, also restore to the default 256, so this is not consistent.
Because the game does not support anything higher than 256, it's not coded in to support any more than this.

I cannot reproduce anymore in 1.16-pre2, build height works as expected, does it still occur for you?
